The Belgians of Michigan

The Braspenninckx and Elegeert Families

Welcome to the Home Page
of
The Braspenninckx and Elegeerts Families of Michigan

This website is devoted to my Belgians ancestors who came at the turn of the century from Belgium to settle in the Upper Penninsula of Michigan.

The above photo is of the Braspenninckx family in the 1920's:
Jospehine, Marge, Dorothy, Jimmy and mother Olive Braspenninckx.

The Antwerpen and Stekene Connection

The Constant Braspenninckx Family came from the Antwerpen area of  Belgium.  The Elegeert / Elegeer Family came from Stekene, between the cities of Antwerpen and Brugge.  If you are a member of this family, especially if you are from Belgium currently, please do not be shy in contacting me.

I am currently planning a late fall trip to Belgium (fall 2006)
and would love to be in contact with you!

I am currently asking all family members that are interested, to write a brief (or long) memory of a family member you most want to remember.  There is no better way to honor a family member than to write a story, essay or biography of a favorite family member and share it.  (If you need help with beginning the writing process, please contact me and I can forward some easy wrting tool aides to get the creative memories flowing and the pens writing!)

I will soon have a few wonderful stories about Louis Braspenninckx and his love of motorcycles and motor cars.  Thank you Daniel Braspenninckx for answering my request for stories.  Everyone will greatly enjoy Daniel's humor and imagery of Louis motorcycling with a "missing" passenger!

Coming Soon!
